Job Title: Director of Strategic Technology
Status: Full Time | Exempt Employee
This position allows for up to four days of remote work per week.
Summary: The Maryland Legal Services Corporation, a nonprofit, statewide grant maker, seeks a full-time Director of Strategic Technology to help us a) successfully communicate with and assist our (usually non-technical) grantees with reporting data processes and technology questions; b) manage automated and manual processes to receive and transform diverse reporting data, prepping and importing it into our Tableau environment; c) provide technical assistance to grantees regarding AI and other technology tools; and d) provide leadership, coordination and support for MLSC’s internal and external technology tools, policies, and decisions.
Our office is in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. Following an onboarding period, this position may work in a hybrid format. This position must have ready access to transportation within the state of Maryland.

Primary Responsibilities will include:
- Tableau / ETL pipelines: Administer and optimize automated dataflows that receive grantee reporting data in excel format, transform it based on templates, create user-friendly data visualizations in Tableau, and publish curated data visualizations in Tableau.
- Tableau / BI enablement: Assist internal colleagues in developing and refining Tableau dashboards, reports and data visualizations, including requirements translation, metric definitions, filter logic, and performance tuning to extract relevant information.
- External reporting support QA: In collaboration with MLSC’s grants team, track and document data quality issues in grantee report submissions (missing fields, invalid formats, etc.) and coordinate with grantees to remediate source-system configuration and submission errors.
- External stakeholder support: Provide office hours for external stakeholders, to help them with data collection workflows and submission troubleshooting, as well as other technology questions.
- External information support and platform administration: Oversee MLSC Community Connection platform development and support.
- Technology program leadership: In collaboration with MLSC’s grants team, lead the development, communication, implementation and support of a Grantee Technology Baseline Plan, including standards definition, implementation guidance, and support processes.
- Technology program leadership: In collaboration with MLSC’s grants team, provide constructive and supportive technical feedback to grantees seeking to apply for funding for technology projects.
- Technical review for funding requests: Partner with the grants team to evaluate technology grant applications, providing technical assessment, feasibility analysis, and risk/controls feedback.
- Grantee technical assistance: Deliver implementation support for approved grantee technology projects, including AI-enabled solutions (requirements, data readiness, integration considerations, and monitoring).
- Internal support: Prepare documentation of new and existing dataflow and technology processes.
- Internal support: Provide backup administrative support with MLSC’s internal grants database, file storage, and other technologies including data systems, access management, file storage and governance, and general IT support matters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications
Qualifications/Skills:
- Minimum level of education: Bachelor’s degree or significant undergraduate course work in computer science, database management, or similar discipline, OR relevant industry certifications in Tableau and data analytics (e.g., Tableau Desktop Specialist or Tableau Certified Data Analyst). Additional professional experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in business data management with non-profit experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with Tableau, or similar data systems with demonstrably transferrable skills.
- Advanced Excel and SharePoint skills required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Power Automate, and Python or a similar programming language preferred.
- A strong ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Analyze current grantee reporting processes and identify potential areas of technical enhancement or improvement.
- Assist colleagues with complex technical tasks.
- Prepare a variety of reports in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and training to team members regarding technology, fostering a growth mindset and culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality in program administration and interactions with contractors, consultants, experts, and others.
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
Compensation
Salary/Benefits: $95,000 – $105,000 salary depending on experience and skills, plus generous benefits package including health, dental, long-term disability, exceptional retirement plan contributions, significant PTO, and organization-paid parking/transit allowance.
