Project Household Staff Attorney
Senior Legal Services
August 11, 2022
Senior Legal Services (SLS) seeks a Project Household attorney to serve seniors with homeownership-related and other legal concerns.
SLS is a joint program of The Bar Association of Baltimore City and the Baltimore Bar Foundation. SLS provides vital pro bono legal services to low-income seniors, aged 60 and over, in Baltimore City. We advise and represent clients on a broad range of civil legal matters, including estate planning, consumer and debt collection issues, landlord/tenant disputes, housing matters, foreclosure prevention, probate, and guardianship. The mission of SLS is to provide quality legal services to an underserved population at risk of losing resources to empower them to age in place and thrive in their community.
Project Household is a partnership that seeks to expand access to legal services and capacity to preserve homeownership for Baltimore residents aged 60 and older. The Project Household attorney at SLS will help seniors avoid foreclosure, draft estate planning documents to ensure the successful transfer of homes from one generation to the next, represent seniors in administrative proceedings involving city citations, and draft life estate deeds with and without powers. The attorney will also have a set schedule to regularly attend individual meetings with clients at senior centers and senior apartment complexes. The Project Household attorney also helps to run monthly estate planning clinics with partner organizations.
All candidates must be barred in Maryland for consideration. The ideal candidate will have at least some experience with housing issues, homeownership, or foreclosure, and will have a demonstrated commitment to pro bono or public interest work. Please note: ideal candidate would work full-time, but could consider part-time for the right candidate.
