SUMMARY:MSBA Young Lawyers Section 30th Annual Charity Event benefiting Community Law Center
DESCRIPTION:The virtual Charity Event will include hors d’oeuvres and drinks prepared by Gertrude’s at the Baltimore Museum of Art\, a silent auction\, “Hits Through the Decades” Music Bingo presented by Charm City Trivia\, and a chance to win one of many prizes. \nThis year’s charity beneficiary is the Community Law Center. The Community Law Center has actively worked for over 30 years as Maryland’s only legal services organization dedicated solely to strengthening neighborhoods and serving the nonprofit sector.  The Community Law Center provides direct legal representation to neighborhood-led groups\, community associations\, grassroots organizations\, and small nonprofits throughout Maryland. Recognizing that a collaborative approach to legal representation helps dismantle systemic racism\, attorneys with the Community Law Center work in partnership with community leaders to support the priorities and initiatives of directly impacted groups. In addition to providing legal representation\, the Community Law Center also provides learning opportunities for its clients\, attorneys\, and community leaders\, including self-help publications\, workshops\, and training.  Through its work\, the Community Law Center has helped countless communities and nonprofits accomplish their goals and achieve their missions.

DESCRIPTION:The Maryland Public Interest Law Project (MPILP) invites you to participate in its first ever virtual Goods and Services Auction. The Keynote Event will begin with an opportunity to network with MPILP students\, supporters\, and UMD Carey Law Alumni in breakout rooms. Next\, we will hear opening remarks from our Dean\, Donald Tobin\, followed by speakers from the MPILP Community. Our Keynote Speaker will be Danielle Torain\, a 2010 alum who is now the Director of Open-Society Baltimore. \nMPILP raises money to fund grants for Maryland Carey Law students working unpaid summer internships in the public interest legal field. Since the organization’s founding in 1987\, MPILP has supported hundreds of law students who would otherwise go without funding in exchange for invaluable legal experience at public interest organizations. Please join us as we raise money for students devoting their summer to public interest work and feel free to bid on items donated from businesses all across Maryland and Washington D.C. \nThe virtual Auction begins April 4th at 10 AM and ends on April 11th at 10 PM. DESCRIPTION:Maryland Legal Services Corporation will hold an informational webinar regarding FY22 funding opportunities on Tuesday\, January 12\, 2021 at 11:00 am. The webinar will cover general funding policies and priorities\, the grant application process and the forecast for MLSC’s FY22 funding level. We anticipate the webinar will take an hour or less. \nPlease email grants@mlsc.org for registration information. After registering\, you will receive an email with instructions on how to join the webinar. You will be able to listen to the audio of the meeting through your computer or by calling in on your phone. A recording of the webinar will be available after its completion. \nNonprofit organizations interested in continuing or seeking funding from MLSC for civil legal services for low-income Marylanders for fiscal year 2022 (July 1\, 2021 – June 30\, 2022) must submit an application no later than Monday\, March 15\, 2021. The application will open after the conclusion of the webinar.
